MARIPOSAS

The monarch butterfly has a migratory route between the northeastern United States and central Mexico, the two cultures influencing the lives of my Mexican-American daughters. This series draws from Victorian hair art, Mexican folk art, and my own maternal instinct for preserving things left behind as my daughters grow. This imagery has been created through digital collage and manipulation of my daughters' and my scanned and photographed hair, replete with girlish embellishments, in a process I term "digital embroidery."
